Shoals Astronomy Club is a community of amateur astronomers from northwest Alabama and southern Tennessee. From idyllic moments under a canopy of meteors to discussing the equipment of deep-sky astrophotography, our members are a diverse and curious group. We gather for group observations, or set up telescopes in public places to advocate for the hobby.
Meetings are typically held the last Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. Most meetings are held at the UNA Planetarium & Observatory in Florence. March and September meetings are at the LaGrange College Historic Site in Leighton. Our club picnic (and July meeting) is held on moving dates in July, and our December meeting is at a local restaurant.
We share knowledge and resources, discuss current events in space science, and work to improve everyone’s connection to the cosmos.
Owning a telescope or binoculars isn’t required, but curiosity is definitely welcome.
